How The Score Actually Works
The star rating you see isn't the retailer's raw number — it's a normalized score. Every rating starts from the source figure, then absorbs real penalties: 0.5 points off if a product has zero tracked community signals (0.2 if it has fewer than five), 0.3 off for short, generically-named listings — sets, kits, packs, bundles, or "beginner" bundles under six words — and up to 0.5 more for products priced above $180, with an extra cut past $230. The final figure is clamped to a realistic 3.1–4.9 band, not a permanent five stars.
